It goes on like a hospital gown so your back end is exposed. That doesn't matter as long as you have clothes on underneath and your back is against something.
I wear mine in bed in the evenings while reading. the Snuggie is lightweight but I must say it does keep me warm when I'm all wrapped up in it.
Despite the pictures on the box and the TV ads, you don't want to wear one of these while walking or using your arms. To walk you have to lift this colossus off the ground. It's like having a wedding gown train up front. I tried to make a pot of coffee while wearing my Snuggie but the sleeves kept getting in the way and it kept falling off. Exasperated, I removed the Snuggie so I could finish setting up my pot of coffee.

After a run through the dryer you'll notice a lot of the Snuggie left behind. I'm guessing the life span of a Snuggie is directly related to the number of washings.
I see this as a novelty item and a great fun gift. Don't think I'd ever buy one for myself though.
